One positive change about this intersection is that they recently replaced the pedestrian push buttons at this intersection. It appears they (at least attempted to) improve the signage too as the far side of the intersection now has a sign whereas it didn't before. The sign of the ped button in the vid looks like it was improved, however it's clearly used as you can see what text was there before. This is also currently the only intersection in the city that has pedestrian push buttons, but no pedestrian signals. Lots of people (including the elderly, as there's a senior housing building just around the corner) walk to this plaza and cross this street and without pedestrian signals, it can be hazardous when you're caught in the middle of the street and the light suddenly changes.
This intersection is one of the several on the city's list of improvement projects. Ideally, they'd like to turn this intersection (and the one behind it) into roundabouts to help with traffic flow. If it proves to be too costly, they at least want to fix the intersection so that the intersection is more in-line (compare pictures 3 and 4) and that the crosswalks are in front of the stop lines as opposed to behind them, which will make it much safer for pedestrians. Perhaps if the intersection realignment option is chosen, new traffic/pedestrian signals will be installed.
