She had been suffering for years with menopausal symptoms and no one would treat her with HRT because she had a cousin with breast cancer. This made no clear sense I told her. As we age progesterone is the first hormone to declines, followed by estrogen, then testosterone. This is one of the reasons why estrogen dominance is so common in perimenopause. 😩We love progesterone because it:

As if that weren't enough, high cortisol can block progesterone receptors.
👉Avoid medications that lower progesterone if possible, such as synthetic progesterone, (progestins) like those found in the birth control pill and anti-depressants.
👉Eat a diverse diet and improve digestion, to improve nutrient absorption. Progesterone requires magnesium, B6, vitamin C, vitamin A, zinc, and vitamin E to be produced.
👉Focus on ovulation: ovulation is how we make progesterone, (apart from that small amount in your adrenals). So things like the nutrients mentioned above, eating enough carbs, not eating gluten, not being on a vegetarian or vegan diet, not eating too much sugar - are all important for ovulation.
👉Check your thyroid: hypothyroidism can negatively impact your ability to make progesterone. And it's a double-whammy: progesterone enhances thyroid hormone function; thyroid hormone makes progesterone receptors more sensitive. 😓

I’m starting to worry about the heat wave in Paris. I don’t know whether it’s worse to walk for miles in the rain or in 33 degree heat. I went to John Lewis for a mooch today and it was 21 degrees and I thought I was gonna collapse with heat exhaustion. How am I going to cope? 🙈🙈🙈
What I will be doing is packing extremely light cotton floaty dresses and sandals. I’m gonna need to feel the breeze 🤣🤣🤣

After much consideration, I have accepted a new position.

I will be moving to Boston to work at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital as the medical director of the menopause consultative clinic, and educator at Harvard Medical School. My responsibilities are not only clinical, but includes research, administration, and teaching. My goal of building a women’s health fellowship at Harvard is a high priority, to train more doctors on menopause and hormone replacement. I have big visions of making this clinic one of the primer menopause clinics in the country, and is a true dream job.

Today, like every day, I am drinking to my health again.
Other than the very slowwwwwwwww healing of my eye infections, I am extremely proud to say, I turned my unhealthy, autoimmune disease issues of my body since I was diagnosed at 19 yrs old, around.
➡️➡️ 4 years x 365 days + 236 days ago.
And although you can't convince anyone how good my shake is for you and the great results you get from this super food nutrition shake,, (andddddddd trust me I have tried with Woody), I just needed to do it for ME.

The message is repeated over and over again to women. Fear, and guilt.

I want you to know there is NO right or wrong answer.
You may never want or need any of the above and that’s perfectly fine.

You make use HRT for two decades, and that’s perfectly fine.
You might want to use track your cycle and not take medications ever, and that’s perfectly fine.

5 signs you could be hitting the Perimenopause:
Perimenopause occurs when the body begins transitioning into menopause. For most women, this starts in their 40s, but it can begin earlier.
During this time, the ovaries gradually start producing less estrogen, which causes slight hormonal imbalances while the body adjusts.
1. Irregular Periods
For many women, irregular periods are the first sign they're entering perimenopause. They may begin to skip a month here or there. Sometimes the period itself changes, becoming lighter and shorter or, in some cases, heavier and longer.
2. Migraines
Many factors can lead to migraines, including abnormal brain activity, certain odors, missed meals, stress, exercise and exposure to light. Migraines related to perimenopause are due to the decrease of estrogen, which is also what usually causes migraines related to the menstrual cycle.
3. Hot Flashes and Night Sweats
The reason women in perimenopause experience hot flashes is unknown, though many experts suspect the drop in estrogen disrupts the body's internal thermostat. This causes the brain to misread bodily signals and initiate a cool-down mode when it is not necessary. Hot flashes can cause the skin to literally heat up, and may also lead to sweating. The latter helps cool the body back to its proper temperature.
4. Low Libido and Changes in Sexual Desire
During perimenopause, sexual arousal and desire may change. Most women report decreased libido during perimenopause, but some studies show women with healthy sex drives before perimenopause could experience a slight increase in their sex drive.

Two years ago,Karen drove 1.5 hours one way to see me in clinic.

She had been suffering for years with menopausal symptoms and no one would treat her with HRT because she had a cousin with breast cancer. This made no clear sense I told her. She herself didn’t have breast cancer, and THERE IS NO CLEAR DATA THAT HRT CAUSES BREAST CANCER. Yet this myth is so deeply rooted in society that it takes hours and hours with each patient to unlearn this.

She started HRT and came back to tell me she felt like “ I saved her”. That is always kind to hear, but she saved her own life by ultimately making the decision to trust and start HRT.

But she came in hugging me last week, with tears in her eyes. Once I moved to Boston, she was fearful no one would giver her the HRT she have been on for two years now.

We laughed, we cried. It breaks my heart that in all honestly, I don’t know who will continue to prescribe it for her when I leave. I dug up some names, I armed her with my podcasts and notes, but when I go to bed at night, I DO worry thats not going to be enough.

What a shame, a sexist shame, that Karen messaged me to say she will fly to Boston for her HRT if she has to. Utter madness I sigh to myself.

That could mean helping adult daughters to raise their children, as is true in many cultures, or it could mean helping adult sons to survive (and therefore, to father children).

Orca males stay with their mothers for their entire lives and rely on her to find food. The #perimenopausal years (the cycle of time leading up to #menopause, when you no longer menstruate) are sometimes referred to as a second Spring or second adolescence. There's the quality of separating your sense of Self from the needs of others, discovering your passions, what moves you, and what message you want to take into the world. Combined with that rising outward energy, there is a great deal of inward work and reconnection with the body, reinvigoration of self care, and plenty of space for imagining, dreaming, flowing with the emotions and your internal landscape. As a teenager at weekends and during school holidays, I used to take long baths, make myself breakfast in bed, read, sleep, dream, doodle, listen to music, finally to emerge into the world of friends and socialising around late afternoon. As my boys grow older and their focus shifts from mama to papa, occasionally swooping in for, returning to Mother for love, cuddles and compassion, I find myself with more time for reviving teenage rituals. The difference now is that I understand how important these rituals, particularly those which honour the fallow, liminal spaces, are in relation to the whole cycle of creativity. I love that my awareness of this is growing as I grow, and that young women have access to education and new cultural perspectives that honour the divine feminine. Kate Northrup's book #DoLess is another brilliant and insightful addition to this conversation, particularly for those wanting a practical guide to working with the changing phases of the moon cycles. It will inspire you whether you are menstruating, a mum, or peri/menopausal. Many of you know my family is in the process of relocating to Boston. My husband and I have had several heart stopping moments in the last few weeks, the least of which being selling our home.

Leaving your first home is emotional too. So many people walk through your lives and make comments on every little thing. At times we thought about giving up, but we knew it wouldn’t be an option.
